My First Visit to RCS

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to RCS through a co-worker, Crystal Laman. She sought me out at my desk at work for a number of weeks, and finally drove me out to the meeting. I had run out of excuses.

When I arrived, it seemed like there was a flurry of activity around me. I met a few people, sat down, and was shown the "ordering system" for the food. I didn't even want to order anything; I was too nervous to eat. I had no idea--would they call on me to speak?

After settling down, I watched the meeting unfold. There were many people with many roles, but I noticed how smoothly one section would flow into the next. It was nothing like work, where you get "I dunno, Jeff, you wanna go next" not smooth introductions.

What most impressed me was the main speakers. They were quite entertaining! They spoke on a personal level on a variety of topics. I probably would have returned the next week just to hear more.

At the end of the meeting, I was called on...but to my relief just for a few seconds of basic who-are-you-did-you-like-the-meeting. To my surprise, I spoke better and in a little more detail than I intended. And when I was done, everyone smiled and clapped.

That did it! I've been a River City Speakers member since.
